They are steam-cyborgs: human tissues with machine enhancement, designed to be automated and without sentience, working in the Dwarven Mines and on the Dwarven front lines in the War for Texas a decade earlier. War-Forged have most of the Eberron stats, but make much more sense in my world to my mind. Guns are a Gnomish invention, as are Steam Engines, Proto-type Zepellins, Gattling Guns (not available to PCs or revealed as existing until the players help defend the Alamo), and War-Forged. The Dwarves provide the military might, while the Gnomes provide the technology and scientific ability to keep the Dwarven War Machine running. The worship of Moradin is isomorphic to the organization and structure of the Catholic Church. Think of the conquistadors and their quest for gold and minerals combined with Dwarven efficiency and military ability and you get the Holy Empire. Mexico, most of South America, and Texas are all controlled by the Holy Dwarven Empire and its vassal state of Gnomish Portugal. It's North America, Canada, and Central America with a fantasy skein laid over it. Secondly, and most importantly, is the game world. Steel and iron just can't hold an enchantment mithral and adamantite, however, do, as well as silver and gold. This is my hat-tip to the occult tradition, and I like it a great deal. Guns are fairly common in the world, but come with a price: magic users who get really good at magic cannot use them (I'm thinking level five is the cut-off) because a magic user cannot access occult energies when their flesh is in contact with steel or iron. My friend who knows the rules like the back of his hand and I came up with them, and they actually work. Here are some of the campaign ideas I've had, and your feedback and input would all be exceptionally useful and incorporated by me into the game.įirst of all, obviously, there are guns. The problem? They're insisting that I use D&D Rules, which I'm not a big fan of. Okay, so I've been pressured by my friends into finally getting off my butt and creating the Steampunk/Wild Wild West campaign that I've been talking about for years.
